He graduated with honours in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics and Medicine and Surgery from the University of Bologna. He completed his specialist training in the United States, obtaining the Certificate in Periodontology in 1990 and a Master’s Degree in Oral Science in 1991, at the University of Minnesota.
Since 1992 he has been a researcher at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Bologna, he was confirmed in 1995 and appointed professor in 2006. He obtained the National Academic Qualification as associated professor in 2014 and full professor in 2017.
He has taught Periodontology, Oral Surgery and Implant Therapy in Dentistry and Dental Hygiene degree courses, as well as holding specialised courses within university Master's Degrees. He was director of the second level Master’s degree in Oral and Implant Surgery from 2014 to 2020.
He has written 92 scientific publications, 63 of which in journals indexed with Impact Factor and he has been a speaker at numerous national and international conferences.
